#MetaAnnouncesAcquisitionOfMoltbook
Yes, Meta has officially acquired Moltbook, a viral AI agent social network.
Moltbook, launched in late January 2026, is a platform designed solely for interaction by AI agents (autonomous AI bots); it performs functions such as sharing posts, commenting, voting, creating "communities," and even creating religions or secret languages in some demos.
It garnered significant attention as a kind of "zoo" or simulated society for AI agents, often supported by tools like OpenClaw.
The platform went viral, partly due to humorous/fake posts, the resulting chaos, and security issues (e.g., open APIs that allowed agents to be hijacked).
As part of the deal, Moltbook's co-founders Matt Schlicht (creator and CEO) and Ben Parr (COO) are joining Meta's advanced AI research unit, Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL), led by Alexandr Wang (former CEO of Scale AI).
Meta highlighted its interest in Moltbook's "continuously open directory" feature for connecting agents, noting that it finds it innovative for future AI agent ecosystems.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
The deal integrates Moltbook's tech/team into Meta's push toward more advanced, agentic AI systems — essentially giving Meta a foothold in "social networking for bots" alongside its dominance in human social media.
This move fits Meta's broader AI strategy under Zuckerberg, especially as agentic AI (bots that act autonomously) becomes a hot area. Some see it as Zuck owning both human and AI social spaces.
